Main Purpose of Job To carry out planned maintenance and responsive repairs to all vehicles and plant in use by the London Borough of Lewisham and third party contractors. To ensure that all planned maintenance and responsive repairs are carried out to the necessary standard as laid down by the Vehicle Operators Standards Agency (VOSA) and manufacturers procedures in order to maximize vehicle/plant efficiency and availability to end user departments.
Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties
1. To undertake the planned maintenance and responsive repairs to all vehicles and plant supplied to end user department by Fleet Services.
2. To ensure that the planned maintenance and responsive repairs to vehicles and plant are carried out to VOSA ,Construction and Use ,Manufacturers and HSE standards.
3. To prepare HGV and PSV vehicles for annual test to all latest construction and use regulations and MOT testers manual standards
4. To ensure that all planned maintenance and responsive repairs are progressed through the Fleet Vehicle Workshops in a efficient and effective manner.
5. To ensure all planned maintenance and responsive repairs are accurately recorded on job cards and legal VOSA safety check sheets to include work completed, parts dates and personal signatures’.
6. Liaise with the Fleet Vehicle Workshop Stores to insure adequate vehicle spares are available, requisition non-stock items as required.
7. Liaise with user dept drivers and supervisor on vehicle fault finding and vehicle availability and legal compliance.
8. Liaise with specialist vehicle repair contractors to aid accurate and expedite diagnosis of vehicle faults.
9. To be part of a 24 hrs 365 day stand-by rota to include bank holidays
10. Emergency stand-by will include responding to major incidents when declared by the Councils Emergency Planning Officer, this will include liaising with the Police, Fire Brigade and the Councils Local Authority Liaison Officer (LALO).
11. To attend roadside breakdowns as required undertaking detailed situation assessment and fault diagnosis and repair with due regard to personal safety.
12. Liaise with recovery contractors to arrange safe removal of vehicles.

About the role:

Your responsibilities will be:
To support and assist the Fleet Operations Supervisor to deliver a high functioning, customer focused HGV & LCV Inspections and maintenance service in accordance with DVSA regulatory standards, Corporate Fleet Policies and manufacturers’ recommendations.
To provide an ‘out of hours’ service during the winter period and bank holidays to provide assistance to other service areas across the Council as required.
Provide a proactive approach to maintaining the councils fleet of around 150 HGV’s to ensure compliance with the legal requirement in relation to the operation of the Council’s plant and transport fleet, the Council’s Operator’s license and DVSA. You will play a pivotal part in the service income maximization by logging and recording work activities, labour charges, ordering parts and monitoring impress stock on the digital database.
Provide a specialist resource to the Council to promote an understanding and use of HGV & LCV preventative maintenance when carrying out vehicle and inspections, maintenance, servicing and repairs, following Council maintenance schedules to minimise vehicle downtime and disruption to service users and avoid unnecessary vehicle hires.
Using the online Fleet Management system, complete and maintain accurate documentation including Vehicle Safety Inspection and service sheets. To sign each Inspection sheet at the end of the Inspection and record all repairs as required. To report any damage repair or non-predictable maintenance undertaken on a vehicle/plant, to enable appropriate costings to be captured.

- Create positive, beneficial and effective working relationships with all Highways, Transport & Recycling staff and other stakeholders such as income generating customers and suppliers to ensure the service is delivered to a high standard of customer care. This will include being available on the ‘Out of Hours’ stand-by rota and attend call outs as required.
- Provide data and analysis to other teams within the Fleet service in relation to proactive maintenance and best practice to ensure a consistency of approach is taken across both workshop sites.
- Keep up to update on changes to heavy goods vehicle maintenance legislation and regulations and fault diagnosis, and in particular the DVSA guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness and to be able to give advice and information on current vehicle maintenance provision to help inform policy and practice to colleagues within the Fleet Service.
- Be involved in the development of processes and procedures for all matters relating to Health & Safety in the Vehicle Maintenance Workshops and continually apply this to the working environment on site and when working off-site as and when required.
- To maintain the Workshop house-keeping to a high level to ensure that there is a “Safe, Clean & Tidy” approach to the Workshop.
- Attend all relevant training programmes as identified by the Workshop Manager and mentor and train apprentices or career graded positions and approve any of their work carried out as and when required.

A Wet Room Floor Layer specializes in preparing and installing flooring in wet rooms, kitchens and bathrooms to ensure a durable, safe, and waterproof environment. This role involves expertise in surface preparation, waterproofing, and precise installation of floor materials such as tiles, vinyl, or resin. The floor layer ensures that the final surface meets functional and aesthetic requirements. Reporting to your Team Manager and/or Works Coordinator and any appointed Line Manager.
Generic Responsibilities
- Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensures compliance with Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.

- Knowledge and experience of using basic IT handheld systems.
- To undertake any other temporary responsibilities aligned with the overall purpose and grade of the role. .
- Positively and responsibly promote and represent Haringey Council and Haringey Repairs Service at all levels throughout the organisation and to external bodies.
- Responsibly carrying out any reasonable instruction from your Team Manager/Line Manager.
Working as a team to achieve best repairs and service outcomes for residents and the service, as a whole.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Proven experience in flooring installation, preferably in wet room environments.
• Hold a valid manual driving licence.
Proficiency in laying tiles, vinyl, or resin flooring with attention to detail.
Must be willing to always comply with agreed customer care code.

Familiarity with drainage systems and achieving proper slopes.

To provide a repairs and maintenance service to over 5,600 communal areas, tenanted properties and empty homes to the council’s standards, statutory requirements, and relevant building regulations.
This role is critical to ensure our housing stock in maintained to statutory legislation and repairs are completed to prescribed timescales, such as resolving defects causing damp and mould as detailed in the Social Housing Regulation Act 2023.
PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE WILL PART OF SMALL TEAM WHO WILL FOCUS ON DAMP AND MOULD CASES.

Qualifications
Essential
Good general standard of education (minimum to GCSE standard or equivalent, including English and Mathematics Grades C/4 or above)
Evidence of continuing development of professional and management skills, e.g. through training, qualification and/or experience.
Relevant qualifications in the built environment / construction for example: BTEC or equivalent Level 2 building or multi skilled maintenance operatives’ level 3, HNC, HND or equivalent experience.
Desirable
Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
City and Guilds maintenance operations NVQ2 (plastering, tiling, carpentry, painting, and decorating. Kitchen fitting, flooring, screeding etc). Membership of a professional body, where such a relevant body exists.
Apprenticeship served.
