Education and training

  1. The post holder will hold a UK recognised Psychology or Psychotherapy professional qualification with significant relevant qualifying experience in delivering specialist assessments and therapies to children and families from a range of backgrounds.
  2. The post holder is required to demonstrate continuing professional development and have completed advanced training in relevant areas e.g. CBT or Family Therapy, Trauma-focused interventions, VIG, EMDR, Functional Family Therapy,
    Mentalisation-based Therapy, Theraplay, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
  3. The post holder will have current UK professional registration with the relevant body.
    Training and Qualifications
    Essential
    ⦁ Professional Training in Clinical, Forensic or Counselling Psychology, Systemic Psychotherapy, Child Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification.
    ⦁ Further accredited training in evidenced based therapies (e.g. CBT, Systemic Practice, Mentalisation-based Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, VIG, EMDR,
    Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy)
    Experience
    Essential
    ⦁ Significant relevant qualifying & supervised experience working with children with behavioural, emotional and psychological problems
    ⦁ Experience of multidisciplinary team working in complex environments.
    ⦁ Experience of relevant health and social care systems, agencies and professions.
    ⦁ Experience of providing teaching and training
    ⦁ Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for children’s psychological care and treatment
    ⦁ Significant relevant experience of working with vulnerable groups and individuals within diverse ethnic communities, and culturally appropriate practice with a commitment to anti-racist practice.

    ⦁ Ability to work with vulnerable people in highly pressured situations, and to manage high levels of risk and anxiety while maintaining safe practice, sound decision-making and professional presentation.
    Desirable
    ⦁ Experience of supervising trainee therapists and psychologists on placement
    ⦁ Experience of working in a family therapy clinic
    ⦁ Experience of facilitating groups
    Knowledge and Skills
    Essential
    ⦁ Skills in complex methods of clinical assessment including specialist assessment tools and techniques
    ⦁ Skilled in undertaking assessments of children’s emotional and psychological needs and contributing these assessments to case planning in a multi-disciplinary context, including the analysis of complex information and clinical risk
    ⦁ A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a
    ⦁ wide range of professionals
    ⦁ Well grounded knowledge of the factors affecting the emotional well being of children who have experienced trauma, separation and loss, and an excellent ability to respond to these
    ⦁ Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised interventions with children who have experienced trauma, neglect and abuse, family difficulties and psycho-social stressors
    ⦁ Ability to engage hard-to-reach families who would not otherwise access CAMHS services
    ⦁ Skills in providing specialist consultation to other professionals
    ⦁ Strong ability to lead on clinical issues and practice within a Children and Families Services context.
    ⦁ Knowledge of legislation, policy and practice guidance as it relates to children’s receiving statutory social work interventions
    ⦁ Knowledge and an ability to respond effectively to the needs of children and families from a diverse range of backgrounds
    ⦁ Evidence of continuing professional development in accordance with professional registration requirements
    ⦁ Ability and willingness to work independently with clients and in a variety of settings such as family homes, schools and community settings
    ⦁ Ability and knowledge of online clinical assessment and therapy and virtual delivery of psychological support.
    Desirable
    ⦁ Good understanding of psychological factors in parenting, parental mental health, dual diagnosis and personality difficulties as they relate to adults and parenting, carers and extended family.
    ⦁ Knowledge and experience of addressing peer risk issues and contextual safeguarding approaches within clinical practice.
