As the Physical Activity Development Officer, you will focus on increasing participation in physical activity and sport across the borough with the particular objectives; to reduce health inequalities, increase inclusion and community resilience. This will include: leading on developing the community asset base to increase inclusive physical activity and sports opportunities, working to ensure sustainable inclusive physical activity opportunities through a variety of means, including developing volunteering, leadership and mentoring within the physical activity and sports context. The headline KPI for the service is to increase physical activity by at least 1% per annum.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
⦁ A minimum of 3 years experience in leisure or a related field:
⦁ Experience of leading and developing inclusive programming
⦁ Ability to work unsocial hours including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays:
⦁ Effective verbal, written and electronic communication skills:
⦁ Ability to write and present formal reports, data and information on complex issues:
⦁ Extensive experience of stakeholder engagement and ability to maintain effective working relationships with a range of agencies/partner services (including internal partners) and to lead on developing physical activity and sport in the community:
⦁ Leadership, negotiation and influencing skills, able to effectively handle tension and conflict:
⦁ Commercial awareness and business acumen:
⦁ Ability to act as an advocate for increasing inclusive physical activity levels amongst residents:
⦁ Experience at promoting/marketing sport and physical activity programmes:
⦁ Strong planning skills, including the ability to plan out a programme of work, taking account of interdependencies and conflicting demands.
⦁ Ability to secure substantial levels of external funding and be responsible for funding monitoring arrangements:
⦁ Ability to manage budgets:
⦁ Ability to negotiate with a range of partners including suppliers of physical activity services and influence outcomes:
⦁ Good analytical skills and able to use data and information to inform priorities
⦁ Problem solving and a methodical approach.
⦁ Ability to adhere to and develop systems of performance monitoring and management:
⦁ Ability to prioritise effectively when faced with competing demands on time:
⦁ Ability to ensure that equalities are mainstreamed into all aspects of service delivery:
⦁ Knowledge of Quest, National Benchmarking and other leisure quality systems:
⦁ Understanding of health inequalities and the relationship to physical activity:
⦁ Educated at Degree level:
⦁ Knowledge of formal project management processes and ability to lead on key projects:
⦁ Understanding of the monitoring of Leisure programmes and Contracts and/or Service Level Agreements:
⦁ Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation in relation to the delivery of sport and Leisure:
⦁ Demonstrates high levels of customer care and a can do attitude to getting things done.
⦁ Detailed Knowledge of Haringey’s Values and how they should translate into practice.
