We are looking for a enthusiastic, self motivated and experienced Social Worker or Probation Officer to join the our Youth Justice Service.
You will have an understanding of the criminal justice system as it affects children and young people (aged 10 –17) who offend; a practical understanding of the principles of restorative justice and restorative approaches, have experience of working with disaffected children and young people and able to evidence building positive relationships with young people.
You will have experience of undertaking assessments and managing complex cases, in addition to planning appropriate and targeted interventions to reduce the risk of offending/re-offending. You will also have the ability to write high quality reports including preparing sentencing proposals and will present information to the Courts when required.
Education & Training
In possession of recognised professional Social Work or Probation Qualification
- A thorough understanding of the Criminal Justice System as it affects children and young people (aged 10 – 17) who offend.
- An understanding of the principles of effective and evidenced based practice.
- Knowledge / understanding of restorative justice processes.
- IT skills.
Experience / Knowledge
- Experience of working with children and young people.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice Systems processes and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of Child Care Legislation.
- Knowledge of the guiding principles of the Y.O.T.
- Awareness of the needs of young people and their experience of discrimination and ability to work to address those needs.
- An understanding of multi-agency work.
