  2. To assist in providing an advisory service to the Council including, HR Colleagues, Senior Managers and Directorate DMT’s, as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager.
  3. To research, develop and draft new policy, guidance and procedures as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager.
  4. To undertake ad hoc workplace inspections. including building operations, care establishments etc. providing advice and reports on compliance with statutory obligations and best practice ‘
  5. To undertake investigations into incidents and accidents, producing written and statistical reports as required, and ensuring suitable risk reduction measures are implemented and that reporting requirements are complied with.
  6. To undertake research analysis and benchmarking on a variety of H&S issues as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager, communicating findings and recommendations within clear, coherent and concise reports.
  7. To respond both verbally and in writing to ad hoc enquiries from Members, Managers. staff and partners/contractors
  8. To assist in analysing departmental H&S needs and to participate in in-house seminars and training courses where requested, providing training for staff and contractors as required.
  9. To take responsibility. appropriate to the post for tackling racism and promoting good race, ethnic and community relations.

Experience

This post requires a very competent administrator able to keep up with a fast pace of work. The vacancy is within children’s social care in a team that works directly with foster carers.
The responsibilities of the Unit Coordinator are;

To set up and maintain systems and processes to enable the smooth running of
the social work unit, ensuring that the work of the unit is co-ordinated and well
organised.

  1. To act as a first point of contact for enquiries to the unit, some of which may be
    complex and/or contentious, from other staff, members of the public, or other
    agencies. To answer queries where possible, and to take messages for members
    of the unit or direct the caller to another source of help.
  2. To take phone calls or receive office visits from children and families known to the
    unit, dealing sensitively with families who may be in distress.
  3. To ensure diaries and appointments for members of the unit are co-ordinated and
    accessible.
  4. To organise meetings and arrange venues for members of the unit and maintain
    follow up and bring forward systems to alert members to forthcoming meetings

  5. To maintain systems of key statutory requirements for children as directed by the

  2. To be aware of children’s and families’ circumstances and to keep up to date on
    developments within cases, in order to be equipped to answer queries from

    Worker.
  3. To collect and aggregate management information about the work of the unit and
    produce regular reports as directed by the Consultant Social Worker.
  4. To undertake research or special projects on behalf of the unit as directed by the
    Consultant Social Worker.
  5. To ensure financial payments to families are efficiently managed. To raise
    purchase orders (paper and electronic) as requested and ensure appropriate
    authorisation for payments. To implement and operate procedures relating to
    financial matters in accordance with the Council’s procedures and to ensure all
    transactions are authorised and recorded e.g. travel warrants, local orders, petty
    cash, vouchers.
  6. To arrange transport and other appointments for families, for example children’s
    medicals, as directed by the members of the unit.
  7. To work collaboratively with colleagues from all other agencies.
  8. To be accountable to members of the social work unit for the maintenance of
    confidentiality, understanding that the work undertaken by the unit will be of a
    sensitive nature and must not be discussed or disclosed to any other officers
    without prior agreement.
  9. To assist in the preparation of reports and briefing papers on a wide range of
    issues for members of the unit as directed by the Consultant Social Worker.
  10. To keep records for all members of the unit to include sickness absence, annual
    leave arrangements, training days taken etc.
  11. To set up systems and protocols to ensure back up cover can maintain a full
    service at all times in order to ensue cover arrangements for members of the unit
    who are not in the office, for example, annual leave, vacancies, sickness etc.
  12. To ensure that all paper correspondence received is date stamped then stored
    electronically. Ensure that all correspondence sent out is accurate and drafted to a

This role provides professional advice and knowledge in respect of public health, so you should have experience of using complex information to explain public health issues to a wide audience. You will have the ability to influence senior members including directors and CEO’s, whilst motivating and leading partner initiatives, lead teams and contribute effectively in meetings. The role will need to develop clinical quality assurance; quality improvement and evidence based clinical practice.

Role responsibilities

• Accountable for developing and delivering inter-agency long and short term strategic plans, projects and programmes which deliver key public health targets and support and drive the council’s wider organizational strategy for improving the health of people in Essex.
• Accountable for the delivery strategy for services, ensuring that performance is clearly defined in terms of benchmarked outcomes and short, medium and long term business, budgetary, performance and quality targets.
• This role provides professional advice and knowledge in respect of public health, which supports and informs ethical frameworks to develop high quality equitable services across primary, secondary and social care sectors.

Knowledge, skills and experience

• Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists. If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine practice
• Meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body
• MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment
• Masters in Public Health, desirable
• In depth understanding of the health and care system and the relationships with both local and national government

The Placement Management Unit (PMU) will be the one stop shop for placements and accommodation for looked after children, care leavers and young people supported under section 17 of the Children Act. The PMU will be a business unit that will help improve placement standards and stability, as well as reduce expenditure through better and consistent management of contracts and negotiating competitive and consistent prices.

This post is required to support in increasing the number of young people claiming universal credit / housing benefits that are living in semi independent or foster placements to reduce the financial impact on the LA who is responsible for covering these costs if the young person is not claiming.
