Family Support Practitioner
The post holder will be required to coordinate a caseload and deliver focused appropriate support to families under pressure, as well as deliver parenting and other evidence-based classes across a cluster of Children and Family Centres and in other venues within the borough as well as virtually.
Helping families make changes to their lives by being tenacious and challenging but supportive, is absolutely key. Knowledge and application of completing holistic family assessments and goal setting is essential as is an understanding of the CAF process and the role of Lead Professional.
The work is hard but seeing how you have helped a family achieve change is a huge reward. However, a commitment to families isn’t enough, your support needs to enable sustained change for families and you must have the ability to keep accurate records and follow policy and documentation procedures. Applicants should enjoy working as part of a team, as well as independently.
Evidence of candidates’ experience of working in partnership with a range of agencies in order to deliver positive and effective outcomes for the families will be required. Working flexibly to meet the needs of families is essential, this could be early morning, evening and/or weekends. Home visiting and other face to face contact, as well as virtual contact, during COVID is required. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine respect for families, a belief in the benefits of life-long learning, and knowledge of issues faced by families and services to support them.
This should reflect equally on their own development and use of supervision. A professional qualification in either Education, Social Services, Health or Youth and Community work, or significant relevant experience is required
EXPERIENCE
managing a family support caseload across a range of issues and complexity levels
working with children, young people and families, particularly those who find services hard to engage
facilitating groups, specifically, but not exclusively, evidence based parenting programmes
working flexibly and creatively within a pressurised environment
achieving value for money
multi‑agency working at all levels
working either in Education, Social Services, Health, Youth and Community or the voluntary sector.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A relevant professional qualification in Community work, Social Care, Education, Health, or Youth work or a degree and/or significant experience in a relevant related field.
