Corporate Health and Safety - What you need the worker to do

⦁ Contribute to the development and Implementation of the Health and Safety strategy ensuring advice and practices are compliant with the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities and reflect excellence in best practice and value for money.
⦁ To be responsible for a caseload as allocated by the Corporate H&S Manager
⦁ To undertake audits of Health and Safety management systems and work place inspections as required.
- Key Accountabilities
- To assist in providing an advisory service to the Council including, HR Colleagues, Senior Managers and Directorate DMT’s, as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager.
- To research, develop and draft new policy, guidance and procedures as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager.
- To undertake ad hoc workplace inspections. including building operations, care establishments etc. providing advice and reports on compliance with statutory obligations and best practice ‘
- To undertake investigations into incidents and accidents, producing written and statistical reports as required, and ensuring suitable risk reduction measures are implemented and that reporting requirements are complied with.
- To undertake research analysis and benchmarking on a variety of H&S issues as directed by the Corporate Health and Safety Manager, communicating findings and recommendations within clear, coherent and concise reports.
- To respond both verbally and in writing to ad hoc enquiries from Members, Managers. staff and partners/contractors
- To assist in analysing departmental H&S needs and to participate in in-house seminars and training courses where requested, providing training for staff and contractors as required.
- To take responsibility. appropriate to the post for tackling racism and promoting good race, ethnic and community relations.

Experience
⦁ Experience of working in an H&S department in a customer focused organisation.
⦁ Experience of participating in consultation on H&S issues.
⦁ A proven track record of providing clear balanced advice and guidance on H&S issues.
⦁ Evidence of success in promoting equal opportunities, determining and evaluating service quality in order to achieve effectiveness and best practice in a comparable H&S function.
Qualification/ Knowledge
⦁ (K1) A relevant diploma/degree or equivalent, or membership of an appropriate professional body -e.g. IOSH
⦁ (K2) Holding or working towards Membership of
Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (MIOSH) status
⦁ (K3) A good and current knowledge of Health and Safety law,
regulations and best practice relevant employment
law and emerging legislation
