Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and Tracking: Regularly review academic progress, attendance, and personal development using data systems. Identify underachievement early and coordinate interventions.
- Multi-Agency Working: Collaborate with social workers, designated teachers, carers, and other professionals to ensure a joined-up approach to education and care.
- Guidance and Support: Provide support and guidance to school staff on the needs of SEND, including trauma-informed practice, attachment awareness, and inclusive strategies and interventions.
- Transition Support: Help manage transitions between schools, key stages, or care placements to minimise disruption and maintain educational continuity.
Key Skills
- Qualified teacher or experience working with vulnerable children and young people in education settings
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to influence and support schools to improve outcomes
- Experience in multi-agency working and safeguarding
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and learner wellbeing
Knowledge
Knowledge of common barriers to learning faced by children in different phases of education, and strategies to address them.
Understanding of standard practices and operations in schools/settings/colleges (as appropriate)
Understanding of child and adolescent development and the impact of common disabilities and trauma
Understanding of multi-agency working and its importance in supporting SEND students.
Understanding of national and local models and frameworks for SEND (legislation, inspection, and guidance)
Familiarity with local Somerset models of practice.
Experience
Experience in identifying and providing support for SEND need.
Experience working in or alongside frontline role in relevant educational phase.
Experience in working in a multi-agency context to secure improvement and action for children
Experience in working with parents, carers, and children in emotive situations.
Experience using systems and processes to track and report on risks, actions, and outcomes over time
Qualifications / Registrations / Certifications
A degree or demonstrate equivalent qualifications through relevant professional experience.
Professional development courses related to SEND or inclusive education.
Teaching qualification.
Certification in child protection and safeguarding.
Membership of a relevant professional body.
