Job Summary and Location

This role is based with Newport City Council, with a statutory Social Work team. The position involves substantial interaction with children, families, and professionals, contributing to the Council’s commitment to safeguarding and community well-being.

Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of the job is to deliver high-quality social work support and services to children and families within the community, ensuring their safety, well-being, and dignity are maintained at all times.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Engaging directly with children and families.
  • Upholding safeguarding standards and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Completing necessary documentation, including disclosure checks as per statutory requirements.
  • Participating in all mandatory training and ongoing professional development.

Main Accountabilities

  • Adhering to the Authority’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely completion of forms and records, plans and reports.
  • Actively contributing to a positive and safe working environment.

Mandatory Experience and Skills

  • Experience working with vulnerable groups such as children and families.
  • Understanding of safeguarding practices and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Ability to complete disclosure and barring checks in line with statutory requirements.
  • Commitment to undertake all role-related mandatory training.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a local authority or community service setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs within the community.
  • Knowledge of local services and resources in Newport.
