The role offers the suitable candidate an alternative specialist practitioner career development pathway that requires them to offer leadership to others through their practice rather than through the management of the team. It is anticipated that this role will be attractive to those practitioners who may have left permanent employment within Local Authorities to pursue their career as an independent or agency Social Worker or maybe within civil service Social Work roles.

The successful candidate will:

Evidence expert knowledge and skills of work within the Public Law Outline and through their own practice ensure that children remain with family wherever it is safe to do so and the child is happy.

Be the case holder of complex court work

facilitate the learning and develop of others through group supervision, support and guidance of other practitioners in matters relating to PLO and Court.

The successful candidate will evidence the expert knowledge and skills of work within the Public Law Outline and through their own practice ensure that children remain with family wherever it is safe to do so and the child is happy. In addition to being the case holder of complex court work the appointee will facilitate the learning and develop of others through group supervision, support and guidance of other practitioners in matters relating to PLO and Court.

The successful candidate will join an established management team which they will work alongside to support through their role as a panel member and have an influential voice in decisions relating to cases entering and exiting PLO, issuing of Care proceedings and decision making at the conclusion of Care proceedings.

We are seeking a practitioner who:

Has a recognised professional Social Work Qualification.

Has experience of undertaking assessments and managing complex cases,

Has experience in planning appropriate and targeted interventions to reduce the risk of offending/re-offending.

Has the ability to write high quality reports including preparing sentencing proposals and is able to present information to the Courts when required.

Experience / Knowledge

            Significant Post qualifying experience in a statutory children’s services social work setting.

Experience in the leadership and development of good practice in others

Experience of working in a case management environment in Children’s Support Services. 

Experience of working in partnership with a range of internal and external partners such as Education and Health partners to develop new services and working practices

Extensive experience of court work. Experience of considering legal advice and providing instructions

Able to apply the requirements of health and Safety legislation to all aspects of the role with colleagues, service users and partners.

Ability to work within policies and procedures relating to Child Protection, Children Looked After, Children in Need of care and support, Disabled Children, Care Leavers and Homeless Young People.

Performance Management Skills-able to plan, monitor and review services against agreed Performance Indicators.

Ability to undertake effective supervision and appraisal.

Able to select the most appropriate communication style, approach and channel to ensure information is focussed and understood by the intended audience.

Advanced I.T. Skills and use of Council data recording systems.
