PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Southwark Council has statutory duty and contractual obligations to provide a pest control service to residents and client teams. Pest Control Technicians are there to provide the front line delivery of core pest control services through inspections, investigations, and surveys of suspected infestations and to carry out treatments or pest proofing works in line with legislative requirements and professional best practice.
Site visits may be within council owned or private properties; communal spaces such as lofts, plant rooms, basements or corridors; public realm locations such as parks; and commercial premises.
The list of pests included in the scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

1.3. Cockroaches
1.4. Bed bugs/fleas
1.5. Moths/flies
1.6. Tropical/garden ants
1.7. Wasps/hornets

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
Essential
Qualified to either Diploma in Pest Control with the British
Pest Control Association (BPCA part 1 and 2) or RSPH
Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management or equivalent.
To understand issues around the delivery of all pest control
work activities in an urban environment and evidence of
continued professional, managerial and personal
development, within the relevant discipline.
Understanding of relevant legislation and codes of practice in H&S, pest control.
To understand how the principles of Equality Act and Public Sector Equality Duty impacts on all work duties.
To understand the basic safeguarding procedures and protocols for children and adults at risk.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and competencies.
- Qualifications: Educated to a very good standard in English and Maths with further qualifications that demonstrate a commitment to continued personal and professional development and the capacity to understand complex, abstract issues and complete written work to a very good standard. Must have a very good level of written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a very good demonstrable knowledge and experience of IT use and administrative systems.
- Knowledge: Some knowledge and understanding of the Youth Justice System and its aims and of child protection and welfare and criminal justice law as it pertains to young people with a good demonstrable knowledge of the issues affecting children and young people, particularly young offenders. Must have demonstrable knowledge of such issues as Criminal Justice and Welfare Legislation, Case Management, Recording and Quality Assurance. Must also have a very good demonstrable knowledge of Anti-Discriminatory and Anti Oppressive practice together with an ability to integrate these into all areas of practice. Must be IT literate with a high level of skill in programs and data bases such as Microsoft packages and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience: Experience of working both in, and with, Children’s and Youth Services, preferably with young offenders, and experience of working in a very busy and challenging environment and working to deadlines in a high performing team with high standards of quality. Experience of producing, monitoring and updating complex database systems and the production of statistics therein. Must be able to work to policies and procedures whilst working under own initiative.

Able to commit to working unsocial hours evening and occasional weekends to meet service needs and objectives are also essential.

PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide assessment, care management and social work services to users and carers arising out of the Council’s
Duties and powers under legislation, Council and Group Policy. To provide the social work component of Barnet, Enfield
Haringey NHS Mental Health Trust’s multidisciplinary Community Mental Health Teams. To work in accordance with

DUTIES:

4.5 To work at all times within the Council’s Financial Regulations in coordinating packages of care and other services
4.6 To be aware of resources available within the mental health speciality
4.7 To make use of information management systems including technology in the recording and retrieval of information

4.9 To be managed and receive professional supervision and to be assessed against agreed standards and targets
