Job description

Day to day – may involve diary management, fielding calls, minuting meetings, liaising with colleagues, partners and residents as well as the Council’s elected members and MP’s. Ideally need to have experience in a similar role supporting a senior leadership team. Knowledge of Local Government or working in a political environment would also be advantageous but not essential.
Regular travel to and working from Priory House, Shefford is required. This is inline with business need but likely to be at least twice a week.

11. Assess individual people’s needs and develop and co-ordinate appropriate support that ensures people can maintain their independence and remain in the community delaying the need for long term care and support.

Herefordshire Council Safeguarding & Support Teams
The Children’s Safeguarding & Supportteams are based across Herefordshire as we move to a locality-based model. Teams will be located in the North, South and Central areas of the county with good transport links to get around the City as needed. The staff are very welcoming and are always keen to offer help and guidance if needed to anyone new to the team.
There are six teams which are made up of a Team Manager and five social workers each. The locality base for this post is Leominster, with flexibility for working at home within a plan agreed as part of your appointment to the post, however you will be expected to attend some meetings in person and attend the office as agreed each week.
We work alongside families in improving outcomes for their children, we have a restorative approach to social work and this is also evident in the team culture and senior management style as we are available for discussions on complex matters, working together to ensure the right outcomes are achieved for our families
Social Workers work closely with the Council’s Legal Team to complete Court applications, which can be a learning experience for Social Workers but plenty of support is available to help when needed. We have Case Progression Officers who support the teams in ensuring we meet court timescales and contribute to identifying training that may be required to ensure that our staff feel equipped & supported.
Regular supervision takes place each month and you will have supervision with a Service Manager , who is available on a daily basis, for both formal and informal supervision sessions and case discussions.

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
- City And Guilds plumbing NVQ 2 or equivalent, or City and Guild Carpentry NVQ 3 or equivalent
- City and Guild Multi-skilled NVQ 3 or equivalent
- Good level of literacy and numeracy
- Demonstrate evidence of continued professional and personal development within a relevant discipline
- Understanding of issues around the delivery of maintenance and refurbishment contracts in relation to a housing repairs environment.
- Understanding of relevant legislation and codes of practice including H&S, Building Regulations, Fire
Regulations, etc.
Experience:
- Demonstrable experience of working in the building and trades industry carrying out repairs and maintenance to void and tenanted properties.

Main Purpose of Job

Key responsibilities
• To provide financial and administrative support to contribute to the effectiveness of the Department
• Process creditor & debtor payments for the Business Support unit to ensure the departments comply with financial regulations and performance targets.
• To ensure the timely input of staff personnel records, to include staff absences and payroll data.
• To ensure all systems are in place to comply with Audit requirements by maintenance of all appropriate financial and administrative records for the Department.
• Preparation and creation of periodic management information reports as required by the line manager.
• To accurately update computer systems and records with information, to ensure management information is accurate, up to date and produced on time.
• Review, analyse and process all jobs and costing information to ensure management information is accurate, up-to-date and produced on time.
• Liaise with contractors and clients where the need arises.
• Advise managers of potential improvements in processes and systems that may be achieved to ensure the performance of the business units is continuously improving.
• Monitor departmental and divisional mailboxes and calendars and respond in accordance with corporate policies.
• Handle telephone calls when necessary to ensure a high standard of customer support is provided at all times.
• To carry out general administration duties to include mail, typing, correspondence and filing systems.
• Carry out any reasonable work related request to support line managers within the Department.
