This role is specifically to work within our emergency response team; therefore the post holder will need to work in a flexible way, which will include working across services, often supporting children in crisis.
The post holder will promote, safeguard, and protect the welfare of each child or young person and provide care to children and young people in respect of meeting their physical, emotional, and social needs. To support and promote a child’s education and transition to independence and adulthood. To also apply the Rotherham Family Approach incorporating Restorative Practice and Signs of Safety and other agreed evidence based therapeutic and behavioural management approaches and practice models.
The post holder will promote advocacy, voice, and Influence opportunities, which will ensure that children and young people participate in the decision making that affect them and their voices influence the decisions that develop, shape, and improve practices within their home.
To work effectively as part of team to provide flexible packages of support to children and young people in the residential home, emergency accommodation, family home and foster placements.

About the Role;
To support the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) team in all aspects of the technical work for Selby District Council with a particular focus on Adaptations.
Key Responsibilities;
• Carry a caseload of adaptations, including both Adults and Children.
• Support the Senior technical Officer in all technical areas relating to DFG work as tasked.
• Work closely with Occupational Therapists on adaptations, having a detailed understanding of adaptations to be able to provide guidance and support on what is technically possible, within the legislation and other policies and procedures.
• Process adaptations cases including checking plans and costings, supervising work on site, assessing works for stage payments and ensuring all works comply with legislation, policy and procedure and Health and Safety.
• Take the lead on Health and Safety matters in relation to the work of contractors on site (usually in the homes of vulnerable and disabled people), including but not restricted to asbestos, CDM etc.
• Manage the postholder’s own workload with minimal supervision from the Senior Technical Officer.
Knowledge and Experience
• Experience and contribution in tendering and implementing procurement contracts.
• Working with contractors to manage projects, achieve good quality works and adherence to programme.
• General property maintenance, with a domestic property bias.
• Good understanding of current Building Regulations and Planning requirements.
• Good understanding and working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations related to construction and current CDM regulations.
• Ability to deal with a range of building trades at both a practical and theoretical level.
• Experience of working with the public, particularly older and disabled people.
• An awareness of the particular issues relating to older, disabled and vulnerable people and their housing needs.
