Job Purpose
To inspect highways assets to ensure that they are safe for public use and ensure that the appropriate action is taken in respect to any defects identified, including issuing work to contractors, check completed work and monitoring progress. Main Areas of Responsibility:
• To undertake highway related inspections (both walked and driven) in accordance with the Highways Act 1980, the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, and Well Managed Highways Infrastructure – A code of Practice, and maintain and update all associated records
• To ensure that all works and inspections are undertaken within the correct timescales and to the appropriate standards in accordance with current Council policy and guidelines, leading to the achievement of business and service targets
• To log and report defects on assets such as, for example, carriageway and footway surfaces, street furniture, carriageway markings and highway drainage
• To raise works orders as a result of undertaking routine Section 58 Inspections, ad hoc inspections, claims investigations, and serviceability inspections as part of ongoing highway maintenance activity. Check works are carried out correctly and to the required standards

The role is 36 hours a week with a flexi time approach to the hours worked.
The candidate is required to hold a DBS or be able to very quickly provide a DBS once appointed.The work demand arises largely due to an increase in caseloads. MAIN DUTIES

We are currently looking for an Electric Vehicle Traffic Engineer for a two years fixed term to join our Design & Engineering team. You will help to deliver one of the country’s biggest expansions of electric vehicle (EV) charging points, which will see 3,000 chargers on the borough’s streets by 2030. Providing the right mix of infrastructure will help meet the Council’s ambitious plans to encourage a 90% take up of electric vehicles in Hackney by 2030 supporting our aims to become a net zero carbon borough by 2040. Your role mainly involves dealing with the installation of electric vehicle charging schemes in the borough on lamp columns, fast and rapid chargers on the public highway, estate chargers in our Hackney Housing across the borough and also being involved in designing a variety of minor traffic engineering schemes.
You will be responsible for conducting consultations, reviewing electric vehicle (EV) plans, and preparing traffic management orders. You will manage the implementation of EV sites and maintain records of completed projects. Additionally, you will liaise with both external and internal stakeholders, work collaboratively as part of a team, and assist Senior Traffic Engineers in various phases, including concept development, feasibility studies, preliminary design, consultation, detailed design, and ultimately, the implementation of multi-modal or mode-specific traffic engineering schemes, urban realm improvements, and public transport enhancements.
The role will also support the delivery of statutory and legal obligations related to transportation in a politically sensitive and customer-focused manner.
You will have post-qualification experience in Civil Engineering and experience in Traffic Management and Road Safety Engineering schemes. You will also have excellent written and communication skills as well as good time and budgetary management skills.

About the Role
Our friendly, hardworking and experienced Transport Team are looking to recruit a flexible and well organised HGV Mechanic to carry out repairs and maintenance to our fleet of vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment in their busy workshop near Redhill. The ability of the Council to provide the essential services expected by local residents is reliant on having good vehicle availability maintained to a very high standard.
Working with our workshop team and managers in a physically demanding role, you’ll ensure DVSA standards and maximum vehicle availability. With a good all-round knowledge of planned and unplanned maintenance, you’ll keep our plant vehicles and related equipment in top shape.
Responsibilities of the role:
• To carry out repair and maintenance services to the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and associated equipment, including our Grounds Maintenance equipment.
• To ensure that all maintenance and repair work is carried out to a high standard and that vehicles comply with DVSA standards and in accordance with the terms of the Councils Operators Licence at all times.
• To carry out necessary diagnostic work and specialist repairs where possible.
• To attend roadside breakdowns and recover vehicles if repairs are not possible.
• To ensure that maximum vehicle availability is always maintained.
• To ensure that all relevant administration work is completed in a timely manner.
About the Person
• You should have a good all-round knowledge of Planned/Unplanned maintenance procedures relating to both heavy and light goods vehicles (Preferably Refuse Collection Vehicles).
• Be able to cope in a physically demanding role
• Ability to work within specified time frames and deadlines.
• Experience of maintenance and repair of Ground Maintenance equipment
• Understand the importance of good customer service.
• Have good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
Essential Qualifications
• City & Guilds Vehicle Mechanic Qualification or equivalent qualification and experience in discipline
• HGV Driving Licence (Cat C)
• Basic standard in English & Maths
