The Specialist Employment Advisor will be based at The Grove working with Haringey Works the Council’s employment delivery team. The postholder will engage with a range of services already working with the criminal justice project to identify, engage and then provide intensive job-focused support to a small caseload of adult individuals who are experiencing problems with illegal drugs and may also have a history of criminal offending.
The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach has proven to be a successful delivery model for supporting people experiencing mental ill health to secure meaningful employment. We intend to apply the same model for people with substance misuse issues.
The Specialist Employment Advisor role is designed to support the delivery of Haringey’s Good Economy Employment and Skills Recovery Action Plan which takes a targeted response to reduce the unemployment rate amongst those most impacted by COVID-19 through person-centred, strengths-based employment support.
As this role is initially for a 12 month contract, the post holder should have track record of effectively supporting people with substance misuse issues to secure and sustain employment and be confident at using the IPS model into employment.
We are looking for someone who is dynamic, patient and can build trust, rapport, motivate and empower residents to overcome barriers to employment and achieve realistic job goals being an advocate for that resident where needed.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Detailed knowledge of local employment, training and public health services available to residents
- Good understanding of how the criminal justice sector interacts with adults at risk of crime and violent activities
- A good overview the political environment of local government and understanding of how the IPS and other comparable models work. Desirable

About the service
The child protection teams sit within the Safeguarding division and work directly with children who are subject to a child protection plan, or who have a child in need status and their families. Under the direction of Performance and Information Manager you will manage and lead a team of information analysts responsible for the Council’s Adult social care functions.
You will lead the development and delivery of strategies for the provision and use of management information in our social care functions.
